New Investigator Award presented to Public Health alumna

Congratulations, Amy! A PhD graduate with a concentration in epidemiology, Amy Hunter has been selected for the 2019 NVDRS New Investigator Award. An initiative of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Public Health Association, the National Violent Death Reporting System New Investigator Research Award promotes innovative, quality analysis of data by emerging researchers.

Hunter earned her PhD in Epidemiology in 2017 and her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology in 2013 from the School of Public Health. She is currently an injury epidemiology/research scientist at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Injury Prevention Center and serves an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Department of Community Medicine & Health Care, University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

The National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) is the only state-based violent death reporting system that helps researchers understand when and how violent deaths occur by linking data from multiple sources. Based on the research, public health professionals are able to determine strategies for violence prevention within communities enabling members to live in a safe environment.
