Our faculty and researchers aim to develop and implement biostatistical methodology in collaborative research, especially with colleagues and research units across WVU. Our faculty play an important role in teaching and mentoring students, both within our department and those in other departments as members of graduate committees.

Using data to tackle public health issues

Biostatistics is the science of developing and applying statistical methods needed to tackle research problems in a variety of fields – especially public health and medicine. Once primarily focused on data analysis, the study of biostatistics has seen tremendous growth with the increasing importance of computational methods to facilitate data acquisition, modeling and prediction.

Public Health alumna earns spot as Olympic trials qualifier

Savanna Plombon has always had an interest in fitness and healthcare. Having achieved her educational goals in preventive healthcare and earning her Master of Public Health in 2018, Plombon is now chipping away at her personal fitness goals. She recently raced a full marathon in Minnesota and earned a chance to compete in the 2020 Olympic trials in Atlanta next February.
