Calling community and remote service opportunities

We are currently recruiting student volunteers for the Fall 2020 Calling Community Program. This important initiative is to increase social connection for seniors and students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program was a huge success during the spring and summer. The number of seniors who would like to participate continues to outpace the number of students who are currently registered. Please consider signing up. You can earn community service hours remotely and, most importantly, make a new friend.

Students can register to participate at https://iserve.wvu.edu/need/detail/?need_id=510812.

Due to WVU’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Center for Service and Learning will discourage direct service in local communities this fall. Instead, the focus will be on exploring avenues to expand community awareness and pathways where students can build on their passions. We will provide students opportunities to experience many diverse forms of community engagement that will allow them to prepare personal strategies for maximizing their service experiences in the spring and beyond.

The CSL will highlight three focus areas on the iServe database and provide multiple ways to connect and explore the learning and passion behind community engagement. Please visit iServe and join as many opportunities as possible to learn more about yourself and ways you can contribute to your community, promote social action and advocate for causes that are personal to you.

Remember that School of Public Health students are required to complete at least 25 service hours prior to your senior year. Hours earned from engagement opportunities will count for the Fall 2020 semester.
