Caring for Miners with Black Lung: A panel discussion with health professionals, leaders of Black Lung Association

Via Zoom, Monday, April 25, 11 a.m.

Register and tune into Caring for Miners with Black Lung: a panel discussion with healthcare professionals and leaders of the Black Lung Association, via zoom on Monday April 25th from 11am-12:30pm.

Incidents of black lung have increased sharply over the past 20 years, especially in Appalachia. Caring for the miners afflicted with this progressive and deadly disease is challenging, meaningful, and very necessary work. Join us to learn from an expert panel about how the disease is contracted, how it affects the body, how it is diagnosed and treated, and how you can support ailing miners professionally and personally.

Panelists:

  • Jerry Coleman - coal-miner and President of Kanawha County WV Black Lung Association
  • Leonard Go, MD, pulmonologist, University of Illinois at Chicago and Northwestern University
  • Susie Criss, MA, black lung claims counselor, Cabin Creek Health
  • Debbie Johnson, LPN, black lung program director, Bluestone Health
  • Brenda Halsey Marion, RN, former director of New River Breathing Center, and long-time Black Lung Association organizer

This event is intended specifically for students of nursing and other health professions, but all are welcome.
