COMMUNITY DRIVEN

Want to give back to your community?

Personal mobility is crucial as it permits freedom and independence.  Imagine not being able to go to the store on a whim, go to the mall at a moment’s notice or even worse, not having reliable transportation to attend life-sustaining medical appointments.  Every day in our community, individuals are lacking the necessary transportation for all of these functions and activities. Mountain Line Transit Authority is recognizing the need and is currently recruiting volunteer drivers who are willing to serve others in this capacity.

As more seniors are opting to "Age in Place" and not transitioning into a Nursing Facility, transportation is becoming increasingly more important for access to medical appointments, grocery store trips and social engagements. Current research projections indicate that most seniors outlive their driving ability by 7-10 years. Mountain Line Transit Authority recognizes the need for alternative transportation options and is dedicated to eliminating as many barriers as possible.

Mountain Line Transit is implementing a Volunteer Driver Program that utilizes drivers and their personal automobiles to transport passengers to and from requested destinations.  Drivers would be able to set his or her own schedule and would be reimbursed mileage.

More information about the program can be found on their website at busride.org or contact them at (304)296-3680. (Flyers about the program are available in the OLLI office.)
