Director of WVU simulation center appointed to international accreditation council

Dan Summers, director of David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety, has been appointed to the Society of Simulation Healthcare Accreditation Council.

The Society of Simulation Healthcare Accreditation Council is the largest healthcare simulation accrediting body in the world. The purpose of the council is to serve a global community practice enhancing quality of healthcare.

The Council’s vision is “to lead in facilitating global excellence in modeling and simulation through accrediting healthcare simulation programs that support patient safety and quality improvement.”

Summers has been the driving force behind the David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety at West Virginia University. He consistently works to improve patient safety, helping facilitate nearly 30,000 learner encounters per year. His appointment demonstrates his dedication to his profession and his desire to further simulation healthcare.

STEPS is one of 43 simulation centers worldwide accredited by the Society of Simulation Healthcare Accreditation Council in teaching, assessment, research and systems integration.
