DIRECTOR'S NOTE: July 15, 2016

As I watch the young cast of Puss in Boots in rehearsal, I am in awe of the enthusiasm that fills the theatre. With only one week until opening, the kids are embracing their characters, polishing their blocking and their lines, and discovering their own talents. Although I have worked with the Sturgis Youth Theatre for nearly 17 years, I am constantly inspired by passion and energy the young people put into their play.

I am equally inspired when I witness the same level of passion in an OLLI member engaging in their avocation (such as knitting or crocheting, watercolor painting, or writing) or engaging in discussion on a topic new to them.

The producer in me is forming a vision of an intergenerational arts/activity program, maybe bringing together grandparents and grandchildren for a project or matching school children with OLLI members to share stories and history.

Let me know if you’re interested. I’ll keep thinking about this one.
