DIRECTOR'S NOTE - November 18, 2016

As we head into the official start of the holiday season, many of us will be enjoying time spent with family and friends, reflecting on the events of the year, giving thanks for our blessings, and making plans for next few weeks that may be filled with traveling, shopping, and gift-giving.

Retails of course are bombarding us with ads, screaming about great sales and must-haves for the year. They’ve even named the days following Thanksgiving to entice us: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday. Five years ago, in the midst of all this spending, Giving Tuesday emerged as an opportunity for us to give back, to support charitable organizations in our communities.

This season, consider giving a gift to OLLI in honor of a special friend or family member for whom you have no idea what to buy or has already told you they really don’t need another blanket/tie/mug/(insert item here). Or give in memory of a loved one who was always curious and/or inspired and supported your love of learning.

In recognition of these gifts this season, OLLI will be decorating the member lounge and the classrooms with snowflakes dedicated in honor of or in memory of friends and family with a gift in any amount.

You can give through the OLLI website at https://www.mountaineerconnection.com/sslpage.aspx?pid=501&section=OLLI or call the OLLI office at 304-239-1793.

Thank you and have a wonderful, and safe, holiday!
