Electronic Reading (and Listening): For Free!

We recently had a librarian from the Morgantown Public library come in to speak about the MPL digital collections, so I thought this would be a good time to remind you all of the marvel and convenience of eBooks and audio books.

Ebooks can be read on a variety of digital devices, including kindle ereaders, kobo ereaders, iPhones, iPads, Android devices, and computers.

Audiobooks can be listened to on a variety of devices, including iPhones, iPads, android devices, and computers.

You can also send pdf and other documents to your electronic reader, to read there.

There are many advantages to e-readers; the top two are light weight and the ability to change the text size on documents.

If you are looking for free eBooks, Project Gutenberg is the place to start, with tens of thousands of books, most of which are out of US copyright.

But the better is you can borrow many of electronic books from your local library.

Many local libraries use OverDrive as their source for eBooks and audio books and with this, you can use the cell phone / tablet app Libby. Libby can be used to read library books if you don't have a kindle, and is used to listen to audio books.

All you need is a library card, which you renew once a year.

Once you have a library card, and are logged into Overdrive, you can log into and browse the WV Deli and the other resources available.

Even better, there are website add-ons that allow you to see if books you are looking at (such as on Amazon) are available at your local library. Library Extension is an add-on for Chrome and Firefox that alerts you when a book is available there.
