EXERCISE SNUFFS OUT TEEN BOYS' SMOKING
Exercise may help teenagerss -- especially boys -- quit smoking, according to results from a randomized trial.
A tobacco cessation program for West Virginia high school students was 48% more effective at getting kids to quit over six months when it included a physical activity component, Kimberly Horn, EdD, of the West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, and colleagues found.
This overall advantage reached only a trend toward significance at P=0.066 compared with the nonexercise version, although both were significantly better than results with just a brief advice session, Horn and colleagues reported in the October issue of Pediatrics.
