FALL FILM FORUM: October 19, 2016

This weeks Fall Film Forum will view and discuss Shadow Magic at 3:00 PM in classroom A. Returning to Chinese cinema, we have a historical fiction film, made in 2000, about the introduction of motion pictures to China.

Directed and co-written by Ann Hu, this movie was her directorial debut. As a US-China co-production, the film starred Xia Yu, Jared Harris and Xing Yufei. Set in Beijing in 1902, during the last years of the Qing Dynasty, it is an effective look at how cinema eventually became a major art form in China.
