FIRST FOLIO: WORLD-FAMOUS BOOK COMES TO WHEELING

Oglebay Institute is delighted to exhibit an original 1623 First Folio from the Folger Shakespeare Library May 9 – June 12 at the historic Mansion Museum in Oglebay Resort.

This first-ever national tour of one of the world’s most influential books celebrates 400 years of Shakespeare and his legacy. Published in 1623, the First Folio is the first collected edition of Shakespeare’s plays; of the 233 copies known today, 82 belong to the Folger Library. Oglebay Institute is the only location in West Virginia for the First Folio! national tour.

Accompanying the rare book will be a multi-panel exhibition exploring Shakespeare’s impact, then and now. A series of public programs take place throughout Wheeling during the exhibit to connect the public with the Bard, his work and the history of the printed word.

The exhibit is free with admission to the Mansion Museum ($7) and is open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 304-242-7272 to book school groups and for more information.
