ITS Security Alert: Phishing Email Attempt

Today (Friday, June 3), WVU Medicine experienced a targeted phishing attack.

This attack was stopped by the WVU ITS and WVU Medicine IT and security teams.

As a result, some users were required to reset their password out of an abundance of caution.

Please ensure that you are skeptical of all external and internal emails with links or attachments. Be careful reviewing email on your smartphone and personal devices as well as work laptops/desktops.

The attack today was caused by an employee clicking on a link and entering credentials into a page to view a “document” sent by the bad actor.

Below is an image of the phishing email from today. The bad actors will try again.

Please remain vigilant of these threats. If you have any questions, please contact the HSC Help Desk at helpdesk@hsc.wvu.edu or 304-293-3631, option 1.
