OLLI Has Added 2 More Classes this Fall!

Just when you thought the fall OLLI term was winding down, we've added two more exciting classes for you.

On Thursday, November 15, Teresa Rehmeyer will present A Pathway to the Future in Swaziland.

Rehmeyer, who earned a nursing degree and Master's in Nursing Education from LSU, and her husband, Daran, moved to Swaziland, Africa, in 2005 to work with an organization attempting to help Swazi children who were marginalized and impoverished, and often orphaned because of the impact of HIV in this very poor country.

Swaziland has the highest prevalence rate of HIV in the world at 26.5%. In 2005, the prevalence rate was even higher. HIV has had a major negative impact in children and families; a whole generation was lost to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

A Pathway to the Future in Swaziland, from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. in classroom B at the Mountaineer Mall. It is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is encouraged. Please call 304-293-1793.

On Saturday, December 1, join OLLI at the WVU Art Museum for a guided tour of their latest exhibit, My Hero!, Contemporary Art & Superhero Action, a collection of international artworks that explore iconic superhero imagery, along with reimagined interpretations of our classic heroes. The artists in the exhibition both pay homage to these universal idols, and also present critical questions about their popularity and God-like stature. Some artists in the exhibition spin the fantasy further by imagining the hero as a child, as an aging being and even as an animal.

My Hero! Contemporary Art & Superhero Action was organized by Carrie Lederer, Curator of Exhibitions, Bedford Gallery, Lesher Center for the Arts, Walnut Creek, California.

Support for this exhibition is generously provided by the Friends of the Art Museum and William and Linda Hagerty.

The tour for OLLI will be held on Saturday, December 1, from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. at the WVU Art Museum. Maximum enrollment is set at 20. Pre-registration is required. OLLI membership and term registration required. Please call the OLLI office at 304-293-1793 or register online at olliatwvu.org
