OLLI PRESIDENT'S CORNER - Can I Talk About...

Can I talk about $$$?  As your out-going treasurer, by June, we (Connie McCluskey, Angela and I) realized that our OLLI may be facing some serious financial challenges in the next few years. Please do not panic!  We need to discuss ways we can continue to meet our obligations for years to come, which may require us to re-think how we structure our membership fees, whether we consider adopting per-class fees and where we can raise additional funds.

The 100K Club has been a success with 60 members and just over $60,000 in hand. We cannot have that fund-raiser annually, so what could we do? Many of you already give money to OLLI through your membership fees and/or through donations to various funds.

I’d like you to consider two things: first, please send me any ideas you have for fund raising or share your ideas with another Board member, and second, have you considered putting OLLI at WVU into your will with a legacy?  The WVU Foundation has experts that can help you with your plan. And, of course, OLLI will gladly accept donations to the fund of your choice at any time in any amount. Thank YOU in advance.

Some of you know that I am a hopeless movie junkie, having grown up with them and having learned all I know from movies, so, as Sharon Goodman leaves us, the Curriculum Committee accepted my offer to begin hosting the monthly independent/foreign film showings. Elsewhere in this Bulletin, you’ll see my choice for August 19. I hope you will drop by!
