OLLI PRESIDENT'S CORNER - Labor Day Edition!
Labor Day Edition! Thank you to each and every one of our members, Board members, staff and volunteers for your dedication to lifelong learning through Osher at WVU. A special thanks to Angela, our Executive Director for wearing too many hats over the last year and a half or so, and for being a great new mom to Jack, aided and abetted quite legally by Brent.
I promised to tell you about our last three committees, so here they are:
Office Assistants: This has been a dedicated group of volunteers that spend time in our main office, helping the staff complete needed tasks, answering phones, making coffee for our thirsty class-takers, keeping track of various lists and budgetary matters, etc. We agree that there needs to be a renewed focus on this committee so that each one does not feel they are coming in to do, well, not much, so we will be working hard to make this group more realistically responsive to actual needs. We really need a chair or a couple of co-chair, please!
Facilities & Technology: Anne Nardi has selflessly led this committee but her job one right now must be healing, so we hope someone will step up soon to head this important committee. You’ll notice in classes that we have pretty much all new projectors, computers, sound equipment and such to make our classes as state-of-the-art as we can, but all of these things, plus the rooms we occupy must be kept up, and these are the folks that do it so effectively.
History: ALL, and then OLLI have gathered a pretty fair history by this point and the History group, led by Carole Boyd, keeps our records and shares pieces of our history in this Friday Bulletin and wherever it may be required, including to support promotion and recruitment of new members.
By now you may be sick of me begging for committee chairs but that’s because we still need you, so please don’t be shy—talk to me or Angela and if you feel you can serve, we will do our best to fit you in where you are best suited.
I leave you for this week with two gems from Mark Twain: "The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time." and "Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest."
