PRESIDENT'S CORNER
It is 9/11 again. Can we all prause for a moment of silent reflection? Amen.
Bonnie and I are in Canada at the Shaw Festival. As always, the plays are wonderfully produced and acted. We have always enjoyed seeing plays we either had never heard of or had never seen from the Shaw era. And speaking of wisdom, how about this?
Wisdom is learning from all your experiece, which means maybe you don't make the same mistakes over and over again. And you're more tolerant. Of, God, how we need it in the world. Tolerance of other people's religion, aims, points of view. Just to be able to sit still and hear what the person is saying. Jessica Tandy, Actress.
Our first play was Tony Kushner's newest, a play that fit very well with Shaw's socialism: The Intelligent Honosexual's Guide to Socialism and Capitalism, With a Key to the Scriptures, commissioned by the Guthrie Theater of Mineapolis and just now reaching its finished state for publication. We followed that with the musical Sweet Charity, book by Neil Simon. A light-weight plot but very well done. IHo, as they refer to Kushne';s work was a 3 1/2 hour family drama/comedy with some very potent statements about the state of the world and its various economies. Tonight, ts' Light up the Sky, just for fun.
Next week, I'll start to profile some of our Board members, and yes, we'll be back for Monday's Board meeting where we'll be completing discussion of our strategic plan and finalizing the Policy Manual. Please direct any final thoughts on those topics to Angela. See you next week!
