PRESIDENT'S CORNER - February 3, 2017
Has anyone else gone to Xfinity for that nifty new modem that will solve all our speed issues? Well, I got it and installed it…then one of our printers wouldn’t recognize the wifi built into it. Grrrrr! Got that fixed, then it wouldn’t believe there was a second printer! After much cursing and tearing of hair, I called tech support—and they saved me in a few minutes. Now, why didn’t I do that at the beginning? Does this happen to you? Does your husband insist he can do it like I did? Is it an old guy thing? Sheesh. It all works fine…now. Technology: love it, hate it!
Great Books: I have no interest in blowing my horn about this, but I have been carting around 54 volumes of the Britannica Great Books for, hold your breath, 48 years. I have used them a lot, but I am shedding books, so Jae said she would love to put them in our Member Lounge. I hope some of you will find them of use. And, it seems the annual book sale is coming up, so you can ruthlessly cull your bookshelves like I am doing and deliver these tomes to United Bank or other locations.
What I hate most in life are people who are not really the peach of the day but who want to be young and sexy. You can fool nobody. There is a moment when you have to accept that somebody else is younger and fresher and hotter. Life is not a beauty contest. [Fashion Designer Karl Lagerfeld]
Volunteerism: We DO need you, you realize. YOU make this organization tick, so quit hiding your light under a bushel and let us know what you could do, how you could serve, what committee you would like to help out. Please drop that shyness act and own your talents, even if you think they are tiny. I want to see some new talent teaching for us, so if you know a great teacher out there with cool things to share, CALL them and get them over here. Make sure to give people our website address: www.olliatwvu.org and tell them all they need to know is there, including proposal forms.

We are in the deep midwinter now, so do enjoy the season of mauve and white. It IS beautiful out there, even with no leaves and cold temps…if only you will look and allow yourself to appreciate the peace and stillness. Bon hiver!
