PRESIDENT'S CORNER - June 17, 2016
Pre-Annual Meeting Edition! Have you made your reservations yet? It really helps the Events Committee to have a pretty good count to give to the Knights of Columbus Hall so they can get supplies for the menu and know about how many tables to set up, etc. Please try to call or send in your reservations NOW!
The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age. [Lucille Ball]
This time next week, Bonnie and I will be packing to go for our week at Chautauqua. There, I’ll take some more pictures to share for my CHQ class in July, and pick up a LOT of brochures and visitors guides to hand out to any of you that want to take that class. Their season runs from June 25 to August 28 in case you are thinking of going. I’ll send you some stories about our adventures there the next week. I also have to end one on-line class and start another next weekend, so I may have to take a week off of this column…but I’ll do my best.
Did you know that in Native American tradition, those over 50 are ELDERS of the tribe and by extension, wise people for all humankind? That means our OLLI is a membership filled with elders, wisdom and so much love, all of which are key ingredients for healing. Do you consider yourself a healer? How many people have you enthusiastically hugged today? One of the scholars I most admire says: …live fully, love wastefully and become all that you are capable of being… and another suggests that all humans have two needs: to love and be loved. Sounds simple, eh, but oh, so profound.
The story of a love is not important—what is important is that one is capable of love. It’s perhaps the only glimpse we are permitted of eternity. [Actress Helen Hayes]
See you next Wednesday!
