Public Health doctoral candidate elected to national committee

Following the 2019 American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting in November, West Virginia University School of Public Health doctoral candidate Raihan Khan began his appointment with the organization as a student liaison. Khan was selected after submitting a candidate statement and being elected by fellow APHA Section members.

For his year-long term, Khan will serve the Epidemiology Section, which fosters research and science-based public health practice and facilitates the development, implementation and evaluation of policies affecting the public's health. Sections are the primary professional units of the APHA, representing 32 major public health disciplines or public health programs.

As a Student Liaison for the 2019-2020 session, Khan’s responsibilities include providing information about student opportunities to the APHA Student Assembly leadership and student members, advocating for the development and promotion of student involvement, recognition and leadership opportunities within the Section, participating in committee and leadership meeting to provide strategic feedback about how APHA can better serve public health students, and attending the APHA Annual Meeting.

“I encourage students in the WVU School of Public Health to contact me with any questions they have regarding how they can participate in APHA or present their work,” said Khan. “As the Student Liaison, I’m happy to help guide our students.”
