Public Health faculty complete first offering of inaugural course for global healthcare management and health policy network

West Virginia University School of Public Health faculty Heather Henderson and Steve Davis recently completed the first offering of their course “So You Want to Teach? The Anatomy of a Course” for the Association of University Programs in Health Administration Art of Teaching Institute.

"We're excited to be a part of AUPHA's initiative to provide current and aspiring facutly opportunities to develop and continuously improve their teaching practice, specifically within the field of Health Administration," said Henderson, who also serves as director of accreditation, planning and evaluation for the School. 

With course offerings geared towards all levels of teaching experience–beginner, intermediate, and advanced–the ATI engages individuals in thinking and learning about key concepts in education and strategies for engaging students and developing their sense of belonging in the classroom.

Competitively selected to design, develop and teach this inaugural course, Henderson and Davis, who teach in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Leadership, drew on their extensive years of classroom experience with a focus on bringing real-world concepts and a spirit of creative problem-solving to their course, making it a unique offering. 

"Our course focuses on implementing elements of Backward Design, Universal Design, and Bloom’s Taxonomy in the development and revision of college courses spanning undergraduate through doctoral programs," Davis said. "It is a privilege to be able to provide this opportunity to our AUPHA colleagues, and we're looking forward to continuing the next offering later this semester."
