RSVP for Public Health Bus Trip to Beckley, Fayetteville and Summersville
On Friday, October 19, the School of Public Health is hitting the road! We'll be taking students on an a day trip to the Beckley/Fayetteville areas to learn about and connect with area health departments and more.
A few of the highlights/stops of the tour include the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine, the New River Gorge Bridge, and a visit to the Hawk’s Nest Disaster Memorial (site of one of the worst industrial tragedies in U.S. history). In addition to those stops, we’ll get a chance to connect with representatives from the Fayette County Health Department and West Virginia Air National Guard to hear about the emergency preparedness efforts behind Bridge Day 2018.
This trip will be an all-day excursion. The plan will be to depart from campus (Mountaineer Station Garage) on a charter bus at approximately 7:00 AM. The entire day will be spent at various sites in the Beckley/Fayetteville/Summersville area. We will be returning to campus sometime between 7:00-8:00 PM. A final agenda and itinerary will be provided via e-mail to attendees in advance of the trip.
We understand that many of you may have class on the day of the trip and we will be sending a letter to public health faculty to ask them to consider an excused absence for those who participate. Interested students are encouraged to discuss with their faculty as it is ultimately the faculty member's decision to excuse the absence. Individual letters proving attendance can be provided to students who participate.
