School of Public Health MPH students Participate in County Drill
On March 27th, four West Virginia University School of Public Health students participated in a recent point-of-dispensing (POD) drill held by the Monongalia County Health Department. The Hazel and J. W. Ruby Convention Center located at Mylan Park was the site used to test its Mass Dispensing capabilities. Mass dispensing capabilities will be necessary in times of a large county emergency that would require the distribution of medications for the entire county population.
Master of Public Health student Alan Keenan is completing a 500 hour internship with MCHD and has worked on the exercise as his internship project.
Samantha Shawley and Janelle Stricker, both trained in the Certified Emergency Response Team program, participated as “mock” community members.
Amy Hunter, who will receive her MPH degree in May, attended to help Keenan with the evaluation portion of the exercise. Hunter has been accepted into the PhD program for epidemiology at the School of Public Health.
Ted Krafczyk, Monongalia County CERT Coordinator, facilitated the large-scale exercise.
