SPH students selected as winners at Van Liere Research Day

Congratulations to the School of Public Health Van Liere winners, Hanna Davis and Katarina Preamble!

Hanna Davis, a first year MPH student in Epidemiology, won first place in the School of Public Health's graduate student section for her poster titled “Estimating Entomologic Risk of Human Exposure to West Nile Virus in West Virginia: Comparing Two Different Epidemiologic Measures”. Hanna is working on this project with Brian Hendricks, a postdoctoral fellow mentored by Gordon Smith as part of a larger effort to collaborate with state agencies like the WV DHHR and to promote the upcoming Center for Geospatial Health Data and Research as a resource at West Virginia University.

Katarina Preamble, a third year undergraduate student in Public Health, won first place in the School of Public Health's undergraduate student section for her poster "Mental Health and Indicators of Well-being in Adolescents". Katarina is working on this project with Dr. Megan Smith. It is a secondary data analysis utilizing Dr. Smith's ICE code book, which collected data from WV high school students during the 2016 - 2017 school year regarding their community, school life and home life.
