Sports Cardiology: Athletes with Cardiac Channelopathies – Can They Play?

Featuring Dr. Thomas Allison, Professor of Medicine, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science

This talk, led by Dr. Thomas Allison, professor with the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, will present three interesting cases: syncope while swimming, ventricular tachycardia during screening for basketball, and cardiac arrest in a half marathon.

Through these cases, we will review mechanisms of ventricular fibrillation and sudden cardiac death during sport in patients with structurally normal hearts. Specific conditions that will be discussed include Long QT Syndrome, Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Tachycardiac (CPVT), and Brugada Syndrome.
