Summer/August 2021 graduation application now open

For any graduate-level student seeking to graduate in August 2021, please see the information below.

Summer/August 2021 Graduation Application

  • Available: Tuesday, May 18
  • Deadline: Friday, July 9
  • Register online: registrar.wvu.edu/graduation-diploma
  • Students must apply during the term they intend to graduate
  • NEW: Students who applied for May 2021 and were removed from the graduation list do not need to submit a new application. The May applications roll-forward to August 2021. Applications submitted prior to the December 2020 cycle are no longer valid. To view your active application: please log into your STAR account, select the “Student Services & Housing” tab, “Student Records” and then “View Application to Graduate.”

Graduate students planning to graduate in Summer/August 2021 must submit the online graduation application by Friday, July 9.

Doctoral students are asked to select his/her committee members from a dropdown box. Note: If a committee member is not listed, the student should choose any name (does not matter who) from the list. The application will be changed administratively to reflect the correct committee when the application is approved by the Office of Research and Graduate Education. For added assurance, please notify Joe Andria of any corrections that need made to the list of your committee members.

Diplomas will be mailed in the weeks following degree conferral (August 13 - official August conferral date).

Students who have no financial holds on their accounts will receive email notification to their MIX account when their diploma has shipped. Tracking numbers will not be available. If a diploma is being mailed to an address outside of the United States, it may take an additional 4-6 weeks for delivery. Students who wish to pick up their diploma need to enter the Registrar’s address on the application: Office of the University Registrar, PO Box 6878, Morgantown, WV 26506

ETD (Electronic Thesis and Dissertation) Summer Submission

  • Deadline: 5 p.m., Friday, July 30, 2021
  • ETD website: etd.lib.wvu.edu

  • Students are required to successfully defend their thesis or dissertation before submitting to the university library.

PLEASE READ: If your degree program requires submission of an Electronic Thesis or Dissertation, you must submit by the deadline above to be approved for August 2021 graduation/degree conferral. Students who submit after the deadline will be deleted from the August 2021 graduation list and must reapply for December 2021 graduation.

Defense Date/Final Defense Request Form

  • Requests to defend (i.e. Shuttle Sheet Request) must be submitted two (2) weeks prior to the proposed defense date.
  • Summer term defenses should take place on or before July 16.
  • Forms and guides are available at the Health Sciences Center Graduate Programs SOLE Site (FORMS-HSC Graduate Students).

Special Note Regarding Final Transcripts

Although August 13 is the degree conferral date, university graduation coordinators have until August 20, 2021 to submit finalized graduation lists to the university registrar. If you are in need of a final transcript indicating degree completion, it may not be available until the week of August 20. If you would require degree verification prior to the availably of final transcription, please contact your adviser or the Office of Research and Graduate Education.
