THANK YOU CHARLESTON!
Thank you to everyone who attended the town hall meeting yesterday afternoon for OLLI at WVU Charleston. And a special thank you to Victoria Gaston, Nancy Daughtery, and David Elliott of the West Virginia Geriatric Education Center for hosting us. It was obvious to me that there is interest in continuing the OLLI program in Charleston but we need to develop a wider selection of course offerings and explore alternative membership fee structures. Our next step is to form a committee of volunteers whose mission will be to recruit instructors and members, develop the curriculum, and assist in locating appropriate venues to hold classes. Administrative support will be available from both the OLLI staff in Morgantown and the staff of the WV Geriatric Education Center.
Prior to the meeting, Victoria and Nancy took me and Ed Johnson, a volunteer from Morgantown, to a few locations that OLLI may be able to use to hold classes in Charleston, including the La Belle Theatre and the WVU Extension offices. Other suggestions were made at the meeting. We will investigate these possibilities and work with the committee to determine the best locations to serve our needs.
If you would like to serve on the Charleston OLLI committee, please contact the OLLI office at 304-293-1793 or email us at learners@hsc.wvu.edu. If you were unable to attend the meeting, we would still like to hear from you.
Thank you again and have a great weekend!
