The Marriage of Figaro at the Benedum

OLLI members have been invited to join the Retirees Association members as they go to the Pittsburgh Opera on Sunday, November 12! We’ll travel to the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh to see The Marriage of Figaro, an opera with music composed by Mozart.  It is one of the most popular comic operas of all time.

Figaro is in love with the Countess's servant Susanna who he plans to wed that very day.  However, the Count is trying to exercise his right to bed the servant girl on her wedding night.  Figaro, Susanna and the Countess are outraged and conspire to prevent it and teach the Count a lesson while they're at it.

Included on the bus trip will be a pre-opera talk by Byron Nelson, a retiree from the WVU English Department and the OLLI instructor for Opera as Drama. Byron will also offer a short critical recap on the way home.

We will leave Morgantown from the Mountaineer Mall at 10:30 a.m. and arrive in Pittsburgh around 12 Noon. There are several restaurants near the Benedum Center where you can have lunch on your own.

There is a pre-opera talk that begins at 1:00 p.m. at the Benedum. The opera starts at 2 p.m. The opera runs about three hours with three intermissions.  We should leave Pittsburgh around 5:00 p.m. and be back in Morgantown around 6:30 p.m.

For this trip, you will have a choice between two packages:

  • For Orchestra seating and transportation, the cost is $60 per seat.
  • For Balcony seating and transportation, the cost is $40 per seat.

Refund Policy:  Reservations for this trip are due by October 25, 2017.  On that day, we will make our commitment to the Pittsburgh Opera and to Budget Charters.  As a result, we will not be able to make any refunds after that date.
