WVU Health Sciences research symposium to focus on science communication
The West Virginia University Behavioral and Biomedical Sciences and Cell & Molecular Biology and Biomedical Engineering T32 Spring Symposium on Wednesday, May 17, will feature a keynote address and panel discussion focusing on science communication.
Student poster presentations will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
TV host, public speaker and author Emily Calandrelli will deliver the keynote address at 2 p.m. Calandrelli's talk is titled "Diversity in STEM and Empathy in Science Communication."
A panel discussion titled "Science Communication: Effectively Communicating Research and Increasing Science Literacy" will take place from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Panelists will include Calandrelli; Danielle Davidov, associate professor of social and behavioral sciences in the WVU School of Public Health; Catherine Gouge, professor of English and coordinator of the medical humanities and health studies minor in the WVU Eberly College of Arts and Sciences; and Dan Totzkay, assistant professor of communication studies in the WVU Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.
The event will wrap up with an award ceremony at 4 p.m.
All events will take place at Erickson Alumni Center.
The symposium is free and open to the public, with particular interest to all WVU students, faculty and staff.
