WVU Police holding on-campus training exercise Wednesday
As part of continuing efforts to promote a safe and secure campus community, the West Virginia University Police Department and the Office of Emergency Management will hold an on-campus training exercise Wednesday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The exercise is being held in partnership with several other University divisions and units, as well as various local, state, and federal agencies to evaluate emergency response in a potential crisis situation.
The exercise will take place at the Towers Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) station and the elevated PRT guideway near the Erickson Alumni Center.
The immediate areas surrounding these locations will be secured and available only to responders and authorized personnel during the exercise. Signage will be posted in these areas to alert students, faculty, staff, and visitors while the exercise is in progress.
The PRT will not be in operation that day. Some activity may be visible to those attending the Farmers Market on the WVU Health Sciences Center campus.
“This training is designed to assess our capabilities, plans, policies, and procedures in a potential crisis situation,” University Police Captain Danny E. Camden said. “It will help us enhance our readiness, identify opportunities for improvement, evaluate new technologies, and strengthen our response as we continue to focus on protecting WVU’s Morgantown campus.”
