Graduate Admissions
To apply for the Master of Public Health and Ph.D. programs:
- Applicants should review the admission requirements outlined in the WVU Graduate Catalog. Links are available on each of the program pages.
- Applicants must apply via the Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS).
- Upon acceptance from SOPHAS, applicants must submit a WVU Graduate Application.
For the SOPHAS Application, applicants must submit:
- A statement of purpose and objectives
- Two letters of reference
- A current resume/curriculum vitae
- All university transcripts (SOPHAS requires original transcripts from ALL U.S. institutions attended, even study abroad)
- WVU requires international students to submit English proficiency scores. Minimum score requirements are as follows:
- Please note: The GRE requirement has been removed for the current application cycle. However, should you choose to submit your official GRE test scores, use WVU School of Public Health SOPHAS GRE code: 0157
In addition:
- Submit your SOPHAS application as soon as possible. Do not wait for SOPHAS to receive transcripts, recommendations or test scores.

Ph.D. applicants only: The application for the Ph.D. program for the fall 2025 semester will open on SOPHAS mid-August. Deadline to submit the completed SOPHAS application is 5:00 pm (EST) December 15.

- Allow up to four weeks for SOPHAS to verify grades and process your application.
- Applications that are complete will be reviewed by the department. Students who are accepted will receive correspondence from the WVU School of Public Health regarding next steps, including instructions to complete a secondary application.
Please Note: There are both SOPHAS and WVU application fees. (Please keep in mind, you will not submit the WVU application until advised by the WVU School of Public Health admissions team).
To apply for the Master of Health Administration program:
- Applicants should review the admission requirements for the specific program in which they are interested. These are outlined in the WVU Graduate Catalog. Links are available on each of the program pages.
- Applicants must apply via the Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS) or the Health Administration, Management & Policy Centralized Application Service (HAMPCAS).
- Upon acceptance from SOPHAS or HAMPCAS, applicants must submit a WVU Graduate Application.
For the SOPHAS application or HAMPCAS application, applicants must submit:
- A statement of purpose and objectives
- Two letters of reference
- A current resume/curriculum vitae
- All university transcripts (SOPHAS/HAMPCAS requires original transcripts from ALL U.S. institutions attended, even study abroad)
- WVU requires international students to submit TOEFL scores

To apply for the Master of Science in Biostatistics, Master of Science in Population Health or certificate programs:
