There is no better place for Public Health—the faculty is amazing and always goes above and beyond to help and the students are all so amazing and help build each other up.

What would you tell prospective students about WVU and the School of Public Health?

There is no better place to come for Public Health than here at WVU. The faculty is amazing and always goes above and beyond to help, the students are all so amazing and help build each other up, and we have the prettiest campus around by far.

Have you had any particular professors of faculty members who have made an impact on you while at WVU?

I couldn’t say that there is one faculty member who helped me more than the rest because all of them were so helpful all the time. The professors were always willing to go the extra mile to help you understand the material. The advisers were always there to help ease any anxieties or misinformation about classes. Everyone, especially in the School of Public Health, was always willing and available to help in any way possible.

What advice would you give to your freshman self?

I would tell my freshman self to not be afraid to ask the professors for help, that is the whole reason for them being there. I would also tell my freshman self to not be afraid to go after any opportunities that present themselves.

What do you plan to do upon completion of your degree?

I plan on returning to school to get my Master of Public Health and PhD in Epidemiology, hopefully here at WVU! After getting my MPH, I hope to join the West Virginia Air National Guard as a public health officer, and then after achieving my PhD join the U.S. Public Health Service.

What was one of the most memorable experiences during your time at WVU?

One of the most amazing experiences I had during my time at WVU was definitely when a few classmates and I decided to volunteer with the coronavirus testing at the Monongalia County Health Department. We showed up to Mylan Park, stayed there are all day and helped register people, and a few people helped perform the testing itself. It was an amazing, humbling experience to be able to give back to the community that hosted us the last four plus years when we were here for our education.

I’d also like to thank the health department workers, the nurses, the first responders, the National Guard and anyone else who is involved with testing. These are trying time and these people are making it easier, and there are really no words to say how much I appreciate everything they’re doing for the community.

What is something you’ll remember from WVU?

I’ve met some pretty amazing people during my time at WVU. The people I met through work, through classes, clubs – everywhere you go you have someone you can talk to and befriend. The friendships I’ve made here at WVU will definitely last a lifetime.
