Choosing WVU School of Public Health has undeniably been the best decision I’ve made, providing both academic growth and a sense of belonging.
What does public health mean to you?
Public health means working together to improve the well-being of communities and creating environments where everyone has the opportunity to live a long, healthy life.
Why did you choose to study public health at WVU?
I chose to study public health at WVU because I have a deep sense of pride in both my home state and the University’s commitment to excellence. I want to give back to a state that has given so much to me and studying health administration and public health here is a way for me to do that.
Have any members of the faculty or staff influenced you in a unique way?
Danielle Davidov, my Social Determinants of Public Health professor, has had a major impact on my understanding and passion for public health issues. Her class not only deepened my awareness of the challenges we face from a public health standpoint but inspired me to be more engaged in my community. Her influence is something I will forever be grateful for!
Tell us about your field placement experience or other hands-on experiences.
I have been fortunate to intern with Human Resources at Mon Health Medical Center, and it has given me valuable hands-on experience in a healthcare environment. I have assisted with employee onboarding, recruitment, and data management, as well as several projects. This experience has deepened my understanding of organizational structure and highlighted the importance of effective personnel management in the healthcare sector.
What would you tell prospective students about WVU and the School of Public Health?
WVU and the School of Public Health have been transformative in this chapter of my life. By providing such a supportive community they have truly made this my home away from home. Choosing this school has undeniably been the best decision I’ve made, providing both academic growth and a sense of belonging.
What advice would you give to your freshman self?
I would tell my freshman year self to soak it all in and enjoy every moment. It truly does go by in a blink of an eye, and I would go back and do it all over again if given the chance. Embrace every new experience, take risks, and step out of your comfort zone. Every decision you make will help shape who you become.
How have your experiences in the School of Public Health helped prepare you for your future?
The requirement of field placement was the most impactful, as it allowed me to apply what I learned in real-world settings and gain valuable hands-on experience. These opportunities have equipped me with the skills to pursue a career focused on healthcare administration.
What do you plan to do upon completion of your degree?
After completing my undergraduate degree and Master of Health Administration, I plan to pursue an administrative fellowship. This opportunity will provide me with valuable hands-on experience and allow me to deepen my knowledge by working closely with professionals in the field. An administrative fellowship will be essential for advancing my career and applying the knowledge I gain throughout the fellowship.
Any additional involvement in activities or comments about the program?
I have been a proud member of the Student Association of Public Health and served as the treasurer of the Health Administration Student Association.
