State Partnerships
The WVPRC is committed to working with partners in communities, academic institutions and government agencies to improve the health status of West Virginians through program support as well as monitoring and evaluation of on-going projects.
According to data from 2018, West Virginia ranked 1st in the nation in:
- Prevalence of obesity (37.7%)
- Prevalence of arthritis (38.9%)
- Prevalence of heart attacks (7.5%)
- Prevalence of coronary heart disease (8.0%)
- Prevalence of overall cardiovascular disease (14.6%)
- Prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (13.9%)
- Prevalence of poor physical and mental health, and activity limitations due to poor physical and mental health
West Virginia also ranked 2nd in the nation in:
- Prevalence of diabetes (15%)
- Amount of frequent cigarette smokers (24.8%)
