Project WaTCH - Wastewater Epidemiology

WaTCH-WV is a long-term, statewide wastewater sampling effort to identify outbreaks of infectious disease before they reach epidemic or pandemic levels.

This work is in conjunction with the National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS) and contributes crucial statewide data to the national effort. It allows us to track COVID and other infectious diseases in areas where individual testing is low or absent. It provides information that can help distinguish between disease outbreaks with similar early symptoms, such as COVID, RSV, and influenza. This project is a collaboration between West Virginia University, Marshall University, and WV Department of Health & Human Resources.
